The
Children Are Crying
Colored Pencil
9"x12"
(c) 2006
This piece was inspired from a
performance by Milwaukee poet Muhibb Dyer at my 2005 art show and who my
godmother captured in this pose (from the head up; I invented the rest)
on camera.
The duct tape over the boy's
mouth represents the many ways the power of the voice can be taken away
by society, including violence, negligence and ignorance. The poet
represents expressing the voice for those who have none.
