HANDMADE DOLLS

 History

I was inspired by the traditional African dolls I saw at cultural festivals. I wanted to start making my own version of cute dolls.

Dolls began with a simplistic style of embroidered faces and features. They evolved into making the features like the nose and mouth stand out in 3D. They initially had two legs, but weren't able to sit or stand.

As they evolved it became easier to make them with a single strong, sturdy round base, and no legs. These can stand on their own.

Some - not shown here - are made with long legs that dangle and can perch by themselves on a shelf or chair.
